Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, has won a $48.3 million contract to buy spare parts in order to perform repair and maintenance works of CH-53K King Stallion large, heavy-lift cargo helicopter.

“Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a Lockheed Martin Co., Stratford, Connecticut, is awarded $48.3 million to procure spare parts to repair and maintain CH-53K low-rate initial production Lot Three configuration aircraft,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement Tuesday.

The CH-53K helicopter is touted to be largest and heaviest helicopter in the US military. The design features three 7,500 shp (5,590 kW) engines, new composite rotor blades, and a wider aircraft cabin than previous CH-53 variants. The chopper is capable of handling missions like humanitarian aid, troop transport, casualty evacuation, support of special operations forces, and combat search and rescue.

Work for the current contract is expected to be completed in August 2024.
