US Army Awards BAE $249M for Self-Propelled Howitzers, Related Support

The US Army has awarded a contract valued $249.2 million for Self-Propelled Howitzers, carrier, ammunition and related support.

"BAE Systems Land & Armaments was awarded a $249.2 million modification contract for the Self-Propelled Howitzer and carrier, ammunition, tracked vehicles and their associated support under the production contract to build and deliver M109A7s and M992A3s," US Department of Defense said in a statement Friday.

The original production contract worth $133.5 million to build and deliver M109A7s and M992A3s for the Army was awarded to the company in March 2017. The company won an additional $148 million in February 2018 to procure materials to build the vehicles.

The M109A7 is a recent model self propelled howitzer used for indirect fire support by the US Army. This artillery unit is supported by a heavily armoured munition carrier, designated M9923A3.
