Indonesia aims to boost domestic ammunition production by forming a consortium between PT Pindad and PT Dahana to accelerate the construction of a propellant factory.

Plans for the initiative were discussed when Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin visited PT Pindad's munitions production facility in Turen, Malang, on January 14, following his earlier visit to PT Pindad in Bandung on January 9.

During the visit to the Turen facility, Defense Minister Sjafrie was received by PT Pindad’s President Director, Sigit Santosa, along with the Board of Directors, Commissioners, and General Manager of the Munitions Division. Discussions focused on strategies to enhance the national defense industry’s independence and increase domestic production capabilities.

A key highlight of the visit was the discussion of a proposed consortium between PT Pindad and PT Dahana. The collaboration aims to expedite the establishment of a propellant factory, crucial for boosting domestic ammunition production and positioning Indonesia’s defense industry competitively on the global stage.

The Munitions Division of PT Pindad is equipped to produce a wide range of ammunition, including small, medium, and large-caliber rounds, air bombs, and rockets. Additionally, the division manufactures various types of hand grenades, such as smoke grenades, flash-bang grenades, and mortar grenades.
