Exelis has been awarded a follow-on contract from Lockheed Martin to manufacture composite missile bodies and structures for Lots 11 and 12 of the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM). The value of the award is approximately $20 million.

Exelis will manufacture complex composite structures for more than 400 baseline and extended-range versions of the JASSM. Exelis will fabricate the high-quality, affordable structures using automated composite braiding and resin-transfer mold technologies. Exelis has been the sole provider of these structures since the inception of the program.

“We believe this contract is a reflection of our customer’s confidence in Exelis as a trusted and capable supplier,” said Mike Blair, vice president and general manager of Exelis Aerostructures. “Our shared commitment to operational excellence began more than a decade ago, and we are prepared to deliver on this contract with the same product integrity our customer expects.”

JASSM is an autonomous, air-to-ground, precision-guided standoff missile designed to meet the needs of U.S. and allied warfighters.

Exelis has identified aerostructures as one of the company’s four strategic growth platforms. With more than 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of composite structures and assemblies, Exelis will leverage its breadth of composite process capability to provide optimal solutions for domestic and international aircraft manufacturers.
