Sweden To Boost Fleet’s Ability To Hunt Foreign Submarines.

The Swedish navy is upgrading fleet of ships in order to improve its ability to locate foreign threats, Sweden's Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist announced.

Two key military ships, Gävle and Sundsvall, are set to be modernized with new sensors and other technical equipment designed to help Sweden to spot submarines in its waters.

The government planned to boost protection from potential intruders in Swedish waters, Peter Hultqvist was quoted as saying in various media on Thursday. It follows a huge search for a foreign vessel last autumn.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven previously suggested strengthening the country's navy after revealing that Sweden had "conclusive proof" that a foreign vessel was present in Stockholm's archipelago in October.

Sweden’s armed forces later estimated that as many as four submarines were operating in the Stockholm Archipelago last autumn.
