The Lebanese Army announced today that it has received a shipment of BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles from the US.
The shipment, included an untold number of BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles and their launch pads, was received at Beirut airport late Sunday.
The Army received an improved version known as BGM-71C, or TOW II, created in 1983 with a range up to 3.75 kilometers.
It was widely reported last year that Syrian rebel groups fighting President Bashar Assad were provided with U.S.-manufactured TOW missiles through their Gulf sponsors.
The BGM-71 TOW wire-guided heavy anti-tank missile is developed by Raytheon Systems Company. It is used in anti-armor, anti-bunker, anti-fortification and anti-amphibious landing roles. The TOW is in service with over 45 militaries and is integrated on over 15,000 ground, vehicle and helicopter platforms worldwide.
