The Indian Ministry of defence (MoD) has set up a task force to choose domestic private companies for ‘Make In India’ defense procurement projects.
Former DRDO chief VK Aatre has been mandated to frame selection criteria for strategic partners, who will receive defense projects like aircraft manufacturing, warship production and complex weapon systems under ‘make in India’ initiative.
In couple of weeks, the meeting of the first task force will be held and details regarding timeline will be discussed, the Economic Times reported today.
The task force includes members from industry, armed forces, defense ministry, banking sector, credit rating agency, specialized consultancy and public sector units. Further it is expected to submit details soon for incorporation into defense policy that the ministry is planning.
However, either one or two contestants will be selected for about six types of projects, including aircraft, warships, armoured fighting vehicles complex missile systems, command and control networks as well as critical materials.
