Russia has signed an agreement for the sale of S-400 surface-to-air missile system with China.
Russian deputy CEO of Rostec told China Daily Wednesday that “China would be the first foreign user of the missile system.”
He declined to reveal the deal’s details, saying they “are too sensitive to be revealed”.
“China was the first country that we signed a contract with on the delivery of the S-400 and this contract will undoubtedly be fulfilled on time,” General Director of Rosoboronexport, Anatoly Isaikin said in November this year.
India also is eyeing to buy S-400 missile defense system. The Indian Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) approved purchase of five S-400 missile defense systems for $6.1 billion Thursday.
China signed the deal in September last year, at a cost of more than $3 billion for the delivery of an unknown number of S-400s, Moscow Times reported.
Saudi Arabia is also queuing up to purchase S-400 systems. Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezev, revealed Saudi Arabia’s interest at the 2015 Dubai Airshow, commenting, “There are many who want this, including Saudi Arabia, but so far no one has signed a contract except China.”
