Russian Technodinamika has bagged a contract to supply nine auxiliary power units (APUs) for the Indian Air Force (IAF’s) Ilyushin-76 (IL-76) fleet.

According to the terms of the tender, Technodinamika will supply 9 auxiliary power units for the IL-76 aircraft and its modifications owned by the Indian Air Force. Currently the IAF uses 28 aircraft of this type. The IL-76 is a medium-range military transport aircraft in service with the IAF, the company said in a statement Friday.

The IAF representation recently approved the first two auxiliary power units overhauled by Technodinamika. The company had earlier won an Indian Air Force bid in June 2015 to overhaul 11 APUs for the IL-76 and its derivatives.

Maxim Kuzyuk, Chief Executive Officer, JSC Technodinamika said, “We are going to open a service centre in India soon. It will be arranged in compliance with the principles of the 'Make in India' program, under which aircraft repair and maintenance will be localized in India. In this case, the Indian Air Force will be assured guaranteed deadlines and a high quality of performed works."

The value of the bid is not being disclosed at this stage, but winning the tender represents a major step in the transition to a system of long-term contracting between the two countries.

Technodinamika's Aircraft Service Centre was registered with the Indian Air Force in February 2015. This meant the company was able to bid for component delivery, aircraft maintenance, and repair services.
