India Likely To Enter Missile Technology Control Regime

India is likely to enter the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) this week, a move that will help the country to export hi-tech missiles to foreign countries and buy predator drones from America.

An announcement with this regards may happen during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US this week, PTI reported.

India had applied for membership to the MTCR last year but has faced strong opposition from some countries.

The Barack Obama administration has strongly backed India's membership to MTCR and three other export control regime -- the Australia Group, Nuclear Suppliers Group and the Wassenaar Arrangement.

Established in 1987, the voluntary MTCR aims to limit the spread of ballistic missiles.

India is also aggressively pushing to become as member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, which is considering new applications at a meeting next week.
