Russian Su-34 Airplanes Attack Islamic State Positions in Syria

A day after launching air strikes against Islamic State positions in Syria using long range bombers, Russia today deployed Su-34 attack aircraft for more precision strikes.

Russian Su-34 warplanes deployed at an airbase in the west of Iran carried out airstrikes against IS militants in Syria Wednesday.

The strike fighters that carried high-explosive bombs, OFAB-500 took off from an airbase near Hamadan city of Iran.

The airstrikes have been carried out against the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor and have destroyed two command centers and Daesh training camp, Russian media reported Wednesday.

The distance of the flights from the Russian airbase equal roughly 2,150km (1,340 miles) to reach a target near Palmyra, while the Hamadan airbase in Iran is about 900km from Palmyra, al-Masdar news website that covers the conflicts in the Middle East reported.

Nearly 150 Daesh terrorists, including foreign fighters, have been killed as a result of Russia's strikes on Wednesday; the ministry was quoted as saying by Russian media.

The Russian Defense Ministry had revealed Tuesday that it had deployed Tu-22M3 bombers and Su-34 strike fighters in Iran.
