Russia has completed its contract on delivering S-300 air defense systems to Iran.

"All divisions have been supplied," Alexander Fomin the head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation was quoted as saying by Sputnik News Thursday.

“On April 11 according to the schedule, Russia made the first contracted delivery of the S-300 systems”, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced.

The $900-million contract to deliver five Russian S-300 systems to Iran was signed in 2007 but it was suspended after the adoption of UN Security Council sanctions on Iran in mid-2010.

A deal between Iran and six world powers over its nuclear activities which lifted sanctions in January 2015 removed the barriers to delivery but the fully operational system is still awaited. In April 2015, Russia resumed the talks on the S-300 deliveries following an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

The Russian anti-ballistic missile system is designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missile, aero ballistic, and cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as loitering ECM platforms and precision-guided munitions.
