Russia is planning to test its Sukhoi T-50 (PAK FA) fifth-generation fighters using operational engines in late 2017.

Also equipped with advanced avionics and all-digital flight systems, the fighter is set to become the first operational stealth aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

“PAK FA with operational engine should begin tests in the end of 2017, to begin a series of tests as part of the plane in the fourth quarter,” Alexander Artyukhov the head of the United Engine Corporation was quoted as saying on Thursday by Sputnik News.

"We will complete the trials of the PAK FA fighter jet next year. The first five PAK FA fighter jets have been included in the contract," Russian Aerospace Force Commander-in-Chief Viktor Bondarev said.

Last Friday Tass news agency reported that Russian Air Force would receive the first five T-50 PAK FA fifth-generation fighter aircraft in early 2017. "I believe that we will start receiving the first five planes next year," Bondarev said. The serial production of the advanced fighter jets will begin soon after the initial delivery, he added.

Besides, the Aerospace Force is also receiving Sukhoi Su-35S multi-role fighters, Mil Mi-28N (Havoc) and Kamov Ka-52 (Hokum-B) attack helicopters, as well as upgraded Tupolev Tu-95MS (Bear) and Tu-160 (Blackjack) strategic bombers that "are showing excellent characteristics," the Air Chief said.

Further, about 20 Sukhoi Su-30SM multi-role fighters would be delivered to the Air Force annually. “We will receive 20-24 planes, which is needed to equip an air regiment," Bondarev said. The contract is being awarded to Irkut Corporation for the supply of 30 Su-30SM multi-role fighters as part of Defence Order for 2016-2018 to the Russian Air Force by the end of 2018.

The PAK FA fighter was first seen in January 2010 when it was presented at the air show MAKS-2011.
