India Modernizes Its Laser Wall To 'Seal' India-Pakistan Border Against Infiltration

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has upgraded the laser wall technology that is being used along the Indo-Pakistan international broder late last month to strengthen the India-Pakistan international border against infiltration.

Apart from detecting breach, the laser wall that use laser beams and infrared rays, is also able to distinguish between wild animal and human.

Two years ago, BSF had decided the installation of CRON laser walls at certain areas along the border.

"Following surgical strike and the rising border tension, we were appealed to upgrade all existing systems with latest KVI-101S technology. There are high possibilities that intrusion attempts will increase,” said Tushar Chhabra, founder of CRON Systems was quoted as saying by DNA India today.

By next February or March, the entire eight kilometer frontier will be covered with new laser walls. Till now, the minor upgrades of the intrusion detection system were being done.

The KVI-101S system hardly needs human intervention and also has smarter detection capabilities and encryptions are hack-proof. "The previous technology was not capable of managing in marshy lands, which is the condition in most frontier areas. With the new KVI series, that problem has been resolved," Chhabra said.

The new technology is equipped with next generation IR optics to provide all weather and harsh terrain early detection capabilities.

Border security forces will be using high end technologies like ground penetrating radars, motion sensors, thermal imagers, smart fences, speedboats, hovercrafts and drones to block unguarded 181.85 kilometer part of the border.

While the laser walls are already up, India is also planning to look beyond the actual international border (IB) by drawing virtual borders inside Pakistan.

Home ministry officials explained that GPS coordinates of longitude and latitude fixed at least 200 metres to one kilometre inside Pakistan side would be used as a virtual border to "completely seal" the international border with Pakistan in the next two years.
