The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Comp Air Aviation for the production of multi-role light utility aircraft.

The NAF decided to sign a MoU with the Comp Air Aviation in order to have a legal framework under which the R&D collaborative effort will work, the company said in a statement Thursday.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said that the collaboration underscored the need to seek self-reliance through technology acquisition to develop indigenous capability for production of defense equipments.

He pointed out that the extant MoU with Comp Air Aviation and other international companies were geared towards tapping from their respective areas of expertise which is in tandem with the Nigerian Defense Policy.

The project is part of Nigeria's effort to modernize its armed forces, which are currently engaged in the fight against the Boko Haram terror group in the north and renewed militancy in the oil-producing Niger Delta region in the south.
