South American Nations Interested In Russian Fighters After Syrian Operations: Rosoboronexport

South American countries namely Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay and Argentina are among the countries that have shown interest in buying Russian fighter jets, Rosoboronexport Deputy CEO said at LAAD-2017 defense and security exhibition in Brazil.

"Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay and Argentina can be mentioned among the countries that are considering buying Russian fighter planes," Deputy CEO of Rosoboronexport, Sergei Ladygin was quoted as saying by TASS Tuesday.

Special attention to Russian fighter aircraft is prompted by the excellent operational characteristics demonstrated by generation 4+ and 4++ aircraft, he said.

"To a considerable extent, the interest has increased after the Russian air task force’s successful operation in Syria," the delegation head said.

Deputy Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation Anatoly Punchuk told TASS earlier on Tuesday that Russia had submitted its proposals on the delivery of Mikoyan MiG-29 fighter jets to Argentina, which had expressed its desire to buy these planes.

Rosoboronexport will demonstrate mockup models of advanced military hardware, including the Yak-130 combat training plane, the Mil Mi-28NE combat helicopter, the Kamov Ka-226T rotocraft, the Ansat light multipurpose helicopter, the Tor-M2KM short-range antiaircraft missile system, Project 20382 corvette Tigr, the Project 12200 patrol boat Sobol and other materiel.
