General Dynamics Awarded Aegis Combat System Illuminators Contract For S.Korea, Japan

The Pentagon has awarded General Dynamics with a Foreign Military Sales contract for the production of the critical components of Aegis missile fire-control system for the governments of the Republic of Korea and Japan.

The contract worth $40 million is for the production of Missile Fire Control System MK 82 director and MK 200 director controller equipment, and associated engineering services, the US Department of Defense announced Tuesday.

This contract modification supports and delivers fully functionally tested Missile Fire Control System MK 82/MK 200 ship sets without adverse impact to scheduled ship deployment requirements for operational use, the statement said.

These components are part of the Missile Fire Control System MK99 framework which is a critical component of the Aegis Weapon System, it added.  

Work will be performed in Saco, Maine, and is expected to be completed by December 2021. 

The MK 82 and MK 200 are critical components of the Aegis missile fire-control system's illuminator. The Aegis Combat System is the most advanced tactical radar defense and fire-control system fielded by the Navy.
