BAE Systems, Leonardo Partner To Offer Precision-guided Munitions To US Forces

BAE Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Leonardo to offer the Italian company’s Vulcano family of precision-guided munition to US land and maritime forces.

The two companies anticipate offering new adaptations of Vulcano, including a variant that potentially could be fired from the US Navy’s DDG-1000 Zumwalt class of combat ships, IHS Jane's reported Tuesday.

BAE Systems built the Advanced Gun System (AGS) for the DDG-1000, as well as the MK 45 guns found on board naval surface combatants worldwide.

The 5-inch and 155 mm projectiles share a common canard actuation subsystem. The companies will offer guided and unguided versions of the Vulcano 155 mm.
