Bulgaria To Restart Fighter Jet Acquisition Process

Bulgarian parliamentary ad hoc committee has called for a rewrite of requirements and request to bidders to submit new offers on fighter jet acquisition to replace its outdated Soviet-era aircraft.

The committee decided for a rewrite after the Prime Minister Boiko Borissov voiced doubt over Gripen as the best choice for new fighter jet, Sophia Globe reported Tuesday.

The committee was set up earlier in 2017 to investigate the bid process, which saw an interdepartmental committee of experts rank Gripen as the top offer, for technical and financial reasons, the news daily reported.

Borissov initially told his Swedish counterpart that negotiations on a Gripen acquisition would proceed within weeks. But that was followed by complicated flip-flopping on the issue by Borissov and his GERB party.
