An aircraft of Black Eagles aerobatic team belonging to South Korea's Air Force caught fire after an accident at Changi Airport while taking part in the Singapore Airshow on Tuesday.

The Black Eagles, using T-50B supersonic trainer jets, were part of the flying display programme at the Singapore Airshow.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) wrote in a Facebook post that at 1.24pm, an aircraft from the Black Eagles aerobatic team from the Republic of Korea Air Force skidded and crashed into the grass verge at the side of Changi Airport's Runway 1 and caught fire.

"The pilot sustained light injuries and is being treated," it added.

This was supposed to be the squad's third appearance at the biennial event known as the biggest aviation industry expo in the region. At present, the airport authorities have closed the runway 1 until further notice and are investigating the incident.
