Northrop Grumman Wins $21 Million for US Navy Solid State Laser Weapon System Program

Northrop Grumman has won $21.5 million contract modification for the Solid State High Power Laser Weapon System Demonstrator program.  

With award of this modification, the total cumulative value of this contract is $145 million.  Work is expected to be completed Aug. 31, 2019, US department of defense said in a statement Wednesday.

During Phase 1 of the LWSD contract, Northrop Grumman will develop a detailed design for the new system. Phase 2 will include assembly and ground test of the system, while Phase 3 will comprise at-sea testing of the system aboard the Navy's Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS). The Navy will lead this testing with Northrop Grumman providing technical support.
