Russia will receive four MiG-35 fighter jets in this year and it is likely to sign a contract in 2020 for 14 more.

"According to the contract signed in August 2018, two MiG-35UB combat trainer jets were manufactured and delivered last year. Four MiG-35S (serial version) fighters will be handed over to the Aerospace Forces in 2019," state-run TASS news agency quoted sources from the aviation industry as saying Friday.

The start of flight trials and the international presentation of the aircraft took place in Janauary 2017. The manufacturer’s trials were completed in December 2017.

Russia is also likely to procure 14 more MiG-35 fighters in 2020.

"In 2020, a new contract to supply another batch of 14 MiG-35 fighter jets, presumably within three years, is expected to be signed," TASS quoted a source as saying.

The Mikoyan MiG-35 4++ generation jet fighter has improved avionics, weapon systems, precision-guided targeting capability and an optical locator system, relieves the aircraft from relying on ground-controlled interception systems and enables it to conduct independent multirole missions. There is also an optional AESA radar.

TASS was unable to officially confirm the information at the time of the publication.
