Pak Military Aircraft Crashes Into Residential Area, 17 Killed

A Pakistani military aircraft crashed into a residential area located near Rawalpindi city, which is the site of the army's headquarters on Tuesday morning at 2 a.m, killing all 5 on board, and several other civilians.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, the 5 crew members who perished in the incident included 2 pilots. Another 12 people have been reportedly been killed and 12 others have been injured.

The aircraft was reportedly on a routine training flight in Rawalpindi, the site of the army's headquarters. The army plane crashed, and set off a fire which engulfed several houses, local media reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. The plane was part of the Pakistani Army's aviation unit.

The ISPR said that rescue teams of the Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122 had reached the site of the incident and a fire had been extinguished.
