UK To Combat S-400-Type Systems Using Artificial Intelligence

The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) is reportedly mulling over the idea of applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to break “missile bubbles” of S-400-type air defense systems that prevent any access to, or occupation of a tactically significant area, by an adversary.

“Threat from missile systems such as the Russian S-400s requires a response. Our access to future operational environments is being challenged,” Air Commodore Julian Ball, RAF assistant chief of staff for capability and force development, was quoted as saying by Jane’s 360 on Wednesday.

In March 2019, the Pentagon alleged that Moscow was expanding A2/AD capabilities in the Baltic Sea and Black Sea regions. It is designed to deny an adversary’s freedom of movement on the battlefield.

Large Anti-Access/ Area denial (A2/AD) exclusion zones are known in military jargon as " missile bubbles.” These bubbles allow the user to prevent anyone from accessing the airspace in these areas thereby providing a tactical advantage. The Military is looking to break through this using AI, New weapons and other equipment.
