Huntington Ingalls to Float USS John F. Kennedy Ford-Class Carrier

United States based shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) will float USS John F. Kennedy, the navy’s new Gerald R. Ford-class, stealth-capable, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier on Tuesday, October 29.

“Newport News Shipbuilding will flood dry dock and float John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) aircraft carrier on October 29,” the company announced Monday.

HII was awarded $3.35 billion for the detail design and construction of the nuclear-powered USS John F. Kennedy, the second ship in Gerald R. Ford-class of carriers, in 2015. This class of ships can reportedly house 90 aircraft.

The company also received a $941 million modification to an existing construction preparation contract to continue material procurement and manufacturing in support of the ship.
