Japan to get Raytheon's SM-3 Missiles

Raytheon has won a $267 million modification contract to supply Japan with 20 Standard Missile-3 Block IIA missiles.

"Under this modification, the 'pacing items only' restriction is removed and the contractor is now authorized to work the full, unchanged, effort to manufacture, assemble, test and deliver 20 Standard Missile-3 Block IIA missiles and related efforts, and four missiles under Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case JA-P-ATB to Japan," the US Department of Defense said in a statement Friday.

The value of the contract is increased by $267 million from $1.19 billion $1.46 billion, the statement read.

Work is estimated to be completed by December 2022. 

In April 2019, the US State Department approved Japan's request to buy 56 SM-3 Block IB missiles for $1.15 billion.
