Japan Orders Lockheed Solid State Radar SPY-7 Sets for Aegis Ashore

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has ordered two Solid State Radar (SSR) antenna sets for Tokyo’s Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense system.

“Lockheed Martin and its trading partner in Japan recently contracted with the Japanese Ministry of Defense to produce two Solid State Radar (SSR) antenna sets for Aegis Ashore Japan,” the company said in a statement Wednesday.

The United States government designated Lockheed’s SSR technology, as AN/SPY-7(V)1 recently. Variants of AN/SPY-7(V)1 will be used by the Royal Canadian Navy for the Canadian Surface Combatant program and the Spanish Navy for the upcoming F-110 frigate program.

AN/SPY-7(V)1 is a modular and scalable solid state radar, allowing for continuous surveillance and protection. It will be fully integrated with the Aegis Combat System, providing advanced technology for future ship classes. The SPY-7 radar can detect, track and engage multiple ballistic missile threats simultaneously, the company claims.
