US Navy Awards Lockheed $2.1B for F-35 Components, Logistics Support

The US Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin two contracts worth $2.1 billon combined to provide logistics support for the Navy’s F-35 fleet, and to supply long lead components for the production of new jets.

The first contract valued $1.93 billion is to procure “recurring logistics services for delivered F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Air Systems in support of the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, non-Department of Defense (DOD) participants and foreign military sales (FMS) customers,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement Tuesday.

Services to be provided include ground maintenance activities, action request resolution, depot activation activities, automatic logistics information system operations and maintenance, reliability, maintainability and health management implementation and support, supply chain management and activities to provide and support pilot and maintainer initial training. Work is expected to be completed in December 2020.

Lockheed won an additional $172 million from the Navy to supply “long lead materials, parts components and effort for the production of 28 lot 15 F-35 aircraft for the Navy and Marine Corps.” Work for this contract is expected to be completed in November 2013.
