Sailors of Fourth US Aircraft Carrier Test Positive for Coronavirus

The USS Nimitz became the fourth US aircraft carrier whose sailors tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Nimitz, that sails with about 4,800 sailors, is currently docked in its home port in Bremerton, Washington. The warship is preparing for a deployment in the Pacific this summer, despite positive COVID-19 cases being detected amongst sailors.

One tested positive after experiencing symptoms aboard the ship, and the second had tested positive but had not recently been aboard the ship, the Washington Post and Politico first reported.

Earlier, there were coronavirus outbreaks on USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Ronald Reagan and USS Carl Vinson. The last two ships are currently undergoing maintenance- the former in Japan and the latter in Puget Sound.

USS Theodore Roosevelt was taken to Guam in late March for quarantine after 23 sailors tested positive for the virus. The number of confirmed positive cases on the warship has now spiked to 286, which makes up over half of the Navy's 548 COVID-19 cases in the ranks, the highest among the military branches.
