A former Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-23BN jet gifted to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was listed for sale on online website OLX on August 3.
The aircraft was shown listed on OLX with a sale price of nearly INR 10 crore ($1.33 million), TOI reported.
"The post on OLX about the sale of aircraft installed in the campus is wrong. University has not taken any step to auction or sell it. We are looking into the matter. It's an attempt to defame the university," said Mohd Wasim Ali, AMU Proctor, was quoted as saying by Indian media.
AMU Engineering students study about MiG-23 aircraft’s parts, technology and design. The aircraft was built by Soviet Union in the 1970s and was inducted in the IAF in January 1981. These jets were decommissioned after 28 years of service in March 2009.
