The Chinese Army accused Indian troops of “illegally” crossing over to its side at southern bank of Pangong Tso lake along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), today.

China strongly opposes the illegal crossing by Indian troops of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Monday (August 31), which is a severe violation of the consensus reached at the multilevel talks between the two countries previously. Such blatant provocations result in increased tensions along the border, and the Chinese side urges India to withdraw its troops that crossed the line, strictly restrain its frontline forces and effectively follow its commitments,” People's Liberation Army (PLA) Western Theater Command was quoted as saying by Global Times Monday night.

Nearly 500 Chinese Army allegedly attempted to cross into Indian areas near southern bank of lake. There has been no physical clash between soldiers of both sides, India Today reported citing Army sources.

When asked about the information released by the Indian military that it has taken action to stop Chinese activities in the Ladakh area, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, refuted such claims, saying that Chinese border troops have always strictly observed the LAC and have never crossed the line. The border troops of the two countries have been in communication over territorial issues, he said.

According to the Indian media, earlier today, Indian Army spokesperson Colonel Aman Anand said: “On the night of August 29/30, Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo.”
