The U.S. Navy recently awarded L3 Technologies Inc. $61 million for engineering and technical support for the Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV) program.

The $281 million MUSV program is the Navy’s first project for an unmanned surface vehicle to support the Navy’s Distributed Maritime Operations strategy.

The company won $35 million a year ago to develop a prototype MUSV. This contract calls for delivering the first prototype by the end of the Fiscal Year 2023.

The MUSV program will provide pier-launched, self-deploying, modular, open architecture surface vessels capable of autonomous navigation and mission execution.

The MUSV will provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to the fleet while maneuvering autonomously and complying with international Collision Regulations, even in operational environments.
