Slovenia will procure fixed wing C-27J Spartan aircraft from Italy under a Government to Government (G2G) agreement signed on November 17 which also includes servicing, maintenance and crew training.
The number of aircraft and configuration was not specified in the press release issued after the agreement.
The G2G agreement – the first ever for Italy in the field of defense – was signed by Defence Minister Lorenzo Guerini and his Slovenian counterpart Matej Tonin, and is part of the broader framework defined by the "Direttiva per la politica industriale della Difesa" (Directive on the Defence Industrial Policy), signed by Minister Guerini last summer.
The C-27J Spartan included in the contract is a tactical transport aircraft used by the Italian Air Force. An especially versatile flexible cargo aircraft, able to conduct effectively different kinds of missions, including medical support missions and airdrop.
