Indonesia Announces Intent to Purchase two Scorpene Submarines

Indonesia today announced an intent to purchase two Scorpene Submarines from Naval Group of France.
French defence minister, Florence Parly tweeted, "Our cooperation also extends to the naval field: Indonesia has announced an intention to purchase two French-made "Scorpène" submarines."
The Scorpene submarine decision was announced soon after a contract was signed to purchase 42 Rafale jets between Indonesia and France.

A memorandum of understanding to give effect to the Scorpene submarine purchase was signed today in addition to two more MOUs on defence satellites and to set up production facility for ammunition in Indonesia

The new generation Scorpene diesel-electric submarines should help France to partly overcome the loss of the Australian contract.
For Indonesia the two submarines should help modernize its submarine fleet.
