The first flight of South Korean KF-21 "Boramae," fighter jet will take place in the second half 2022, according to a project update released Monday by the country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
The timelines mentioned in the update coincide with the original schedule released at the of the first flight in 2021.
Significantly, the AESA radar flight test bed (DTB) program which commenced in March this year is continuing, the update said.
System development will go on till 2026 with the aircraft projected to enter armament testing in the 2026-28 timeframe, according to the update.
South Korea has roped in serveral local industries such as Hanwha and LigNex1 to develop several system and components of the KF-21.
Besides problems with its development partner, Indonesia have been ironed with the latter agreeing to pay its share of the funding.
The KF-21 is a 4.5 generation aircraft with major systems and sub-systems being developed within South Korea.
