Sweden joined the Research and Development Agreement between the Ministry of Defence of Finland, the Ministry of Defence of Latvia and Patria Land Oy, regarding the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) on June 1.

By joining the R&D Agreement, Sweden will receive the results of the work packages that have been developed within the programme. Sweden will also reimburse about €3.1 million (excluding VAT) to Finland and Latvia for previously incurred R&D costs.

“Sweden’s participation is a significant expansion of the programme and further develops the interoperability of our countries. The expansion of the programme also enhances the military security of supply and brings cost reductions,” states the Inspector of Infantry, Colonel Juhana Skyttä from the Army Command.

CAVS is a collaborative multinational programme aimed at developing an armoured vehicle system based on the common requirements of the countries involved. Patria’s 6x6 vehicle has earlier been chosen as the chassis platform for the common research and development programme.

To date, the R&D work has yielded a common platform and an APC variant that meet the common requirements set by the programme participants. The R&D work will continue on further variants and the life-cycle support system of the vehicle system.

The programme remains open for new countries to join.
