Ansat helicopters' Take-off Weight Increased by 200kg with New Rotor Blades

A new generation of blades developed by Russian Helicopters for Ansat light multi-purpose choppers has increased their take-off weight by 200kg.

The blades are made using the latest technology from polymer composite materials and have improved aerodynamic properties. The use of upgraded blades as part of the imported version of the rotorcraft will significantly improve its flight performance.

Bench certification tests of prototypes of main and tail rotor blades are currently underway.

The first flights with the new blades will begin at the end of 2023, and mass production to equip the imported Ansat version is planned to be launched in 2024.

“The development of our engineers should significantly improve the flight performance of the helicopter: the climb speed will increase, the flight speed in cruise mode will increase by 15 km/h to 235 km/h. Composite blades can be equipped not only with Ansats supplied, but also with machines that are already in operation - such a possibility is now being discussed. Currently, various types of tests are being prepared to confirm the quality and reliability of the novelty,” said Anatoly Serdyukov, industrial director of the aviation cluster of Rostec State Corporation.

The new blades were jointly developed by the experimental design bureau of the Kazan Helicopter Plant (KVZ) and the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute. N. E. Zhukovsky. This engineering solution will significantly improve the flight performance of the helicopter.

“The new development will increase the maximum take-off weight of the machine by 200kg. The noise level on the ground will also decrease, vibration and fuel consumption will decrease. The blades are equipped with an anti-icing system, which will allow the aircraft to fly in conditions of short-term icing. Thus, the climatic range for helicopter operation is expanding,” said Oleg Gulyaev, First Deputy General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding.

The project is being implemented as part of the state program for the development of the aviation industry for 2013-2025 under a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
