Biden Promises 'Advanced Air Defense System' to Ukraine Following Russian Missile Attacks

America’s President Joe Biden has pledged to deliver advanced air defense systems to fortify Ukrainian airspace against Russia’s brutal strikes.

Biden spoke today with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. He expressed his condemnation of Russia’s missile strikes across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, and conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured in these senseless attacks.

He pledged to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems. Biden, however, did not mention the type of systems the U.S. will supply.

After the conversation with Biden, Zelenskyy tweeted that “air defense (SAM) is currently a top priority of the Ukraine-U.S. defense cooperation.”

84 Russian missiles were launched at Ukrainian targets on October 10, of which 43 were shot down. Of the 24 Russian kamikaze drones, 13 were neutralized.

The Air Force Command reported that the Russians used Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles that were launched from eleven Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bomber jets based in the Caspian region. Kalibr cruise missiles were fired from vessels in the Black Sea. The use of the ground-based Iskander systems, S-300s and Tornado-S MLRS from different directions was also recorded.
