Russia’s military left behind a damaged radar station which points the famous S-400 missile system towards its target, at a base in Kherson.

This opens up opportunities to the Ukrainian side and the West to study them, and potentially develop technology to jam them.

The Russians used the heavily fortified base in Chornobaivka airport, Kherson region, to store military equipment. The base continued to function for a fairly long time, despite coming under Ukrainian attacks repeatedly.

A video recorded by Ukraine’s forces, now being circulated on social media, shows a destroyed R-330Zh Zhitel electronic warfare station, Zoopark-1M counter-artillery radar system and 48Ya6-K1 "Podlet-K1" radar station. The latter is designed to provide targeting for air defense missile systems of S-300 and S-400 types. Kyiv reportedly eliminated the first such system near Nova Kakhovka this July.

As per reports, this radar stations offers Ukraine the possibility to study all its components.

Also observed in the video are radiation reflectors; a truck stripped of all equipment including wheels and engine, carrying containers; and fairly operational Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters captured from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the liberation of Kherson marks the "beginning of the end" of the war with Russia. Moscow declared the city the centre of the illegally-annexed Kherson region, and it was the only regional capital to be occupied since the invasion.
