Japan’s Ministry of Defense chose Patria AMVXP 8x8 for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force under the Wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (WAPC) program.

Patria AMVXP 8x8 vehicles will be replacing the Type-96 8x8 Armored Personnel Carrier vehicles which are currently in service by Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.

AMVXP is available with modular ballistic protection and potential for active defense systems. With AMVXP, Japan will be able to protect troops against IED, NBC, ballistic threats of up to level K5+. AMVXP´s mine protection is scalable even above STANAG level 4a/4b. The vehicle’s shape, low radar and thermal signature enable AMVXP’s stealth features.

The vehicle has fully independent hydropneumatic suspension system and strong chassis construction for high speed off-road driving. AMVXP’s is based on high performance powerline together with an Integrated Terrain Control System (ITCS) and optional rear axle steering for enhanced maneuverability. It is supported by large wheel size and CTIS for low ground pressure, Run Flat system and ABS. AMVXP is available with amphibious capability for water crossing and amphibious landing operations.

AMVXP is ideal for integration of medium-caliber weapon systems, direct fire cannon systems up to 120 mm, Patria Nemo 120 mm turreted mortar system and anti-tank or anti-aircraft missile systems.

Patria AMVXP is available in three different models:

  • Basic model provides the platform for following variants: armored personnel carrier (APC), infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), command vehicle, ambulance, reconnaissance vehicle, anti-tank guided missile vehicle (ATGM), armored repair and recovery vehicle (ARRV), and finally, the 120 mm Patria Nemo mortar system.
  • High Roof Model provides extra space at the rear of the vehicle (34 cm higher than the basic model), which is ideal if the vehicle is used as a command, C4I, ambulance or workshop vehicle.
  • Heavy Weapon Platform has been optimized to carry large-caliber weapon systems such as the 120 mm AMOS mortar system or the 105/120 mm mobile cannons (MGS).
