Cairo has given Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo, better known as Hemedti, the leader of the Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) a 72-hour ultimatum to return Egyptian troops.

This was reported by Daily News Egypt on April 19.

The soldiers were apprehended on April 15, at Merowe Airport in North Sudan. The First batch of detained servicemen returned to Cairo on Wednesday, while remaining troops are expected to arrive within hours.

Evacuation operations of Egyptian troops as well as civilians in danger zones are being carried out by Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) Special Forces Unit in cooperation with the Egyptian Armed Forces.

GIS has reportedly informed RSF and Sudanese armed forces to suspend all military action until the end of the evacuation of the Egyptian troops.

On Monday, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said Egyptian troops were present in Sudan for training purposes only and not to support any party. He stressed that the situation in Sudan is an internal matter and Egypt’s position is consistent in non-interfering in countries internal affairs.

In the conflict that broke out last week, more than 270 people have been killed while over 2,500 people have been injured.
