Argentina, HAL Sign Helicopter Acquisition Contract

The Ministry of Defense of Argentina signed an agreement with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of undisclosed number of Light and Medium Utility Helicopters for Argentine armed forces.

A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed by Argentinian Defense Minister Jorge Taiana, and HAL Chairman and Managing Director C B Ananthakrishnan on Thursday, the Bengaluru-headquartered PSU said in a statement.

HAL’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) Mk1 helicopters was evaluated by Argentine personnel in October 2022 during an official visit to the Defence Expo held in Gandhinagar.

Although not confirmed, the contract is expected to include transfer of 20 helicopters along with their logistical and maintenance support.

No details were revealed regarding the contract’s value. Delivery schedule, and financing arrangements will be disclosed at a later stage.
