Saudi Arabia has received approval from the United States to purchase spare parts for its army's fleet of armored vehicles and tanks.
Confirming this information, the Pentagon released a statement stating that the U.S. State Department has granted approval for a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This announcement coincides with the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notifying Congress of the pending sale.
This procurement will provide crucial spare parts required to maintain and support the Royal Saudi Land Force's (RSLF) fleet of military vehicles, including Abrams tanks, M-60 tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, mortar carriers, Combat Engineer Vehicles, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), Mine Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs), howitzers, additional support vehicles, components & accessories, pistols, rifles, crew-served weapons, recoilless rifles, mortars, vehicle periscopes, night vision devices, TOW launchers, missile parts, computer units, radar sets, generators, testing/calibration equipment, communication equipment, and other related logistical and program support elements. The overall estimated program cost is $500 million.
This strategic move aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives, bolstering the self-defense capabilities of a key regional ally while promoting stability in the Middle East. Importantly, the RSLF has a longstanding participation in the CLSSA program since 1965 and possesses the necessary infrastructure to seamlessly integrate these components into its armed forces, the Pentagon said.s
