First foreign sale for Dassault Rafale
Brazil will buy 36 Dassault Rafale fighter jets from France, including the sale of technology to build its own. The announcement has been given in a joint press conference by French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Brazilian president, Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva. The US$4-to-6 billion agreement will provide Brazil with modern fighters for the next 30 years. The race for the Brazilian fighter contract included Sweden with the Saab JAS-39 Gripen and the USA with the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet.
