The German Navy has decided to outfit its fleet with Thales’ SurfSAT-L system, a satellite communication solution featuring multiple terminals and a Land Based Training System, ensuring long-range connectivity for ships like the F126 frigates.
The company is set to deliver satellite communications for the F126 frigates, designed by Damen Naval to be the largest in the German naval fleet.
Thales is slated to provide a total of four SurfSAT-L terminals and one Land Based Training System to the German Navy.
The SurfSAT-L system, known as a new-generation SatCom terminal with previous global deployments, offers improved connectivity in challenging operational conditions. It is described as robust, compact, and easy-to-use, featuring a versatile pointing system for extreme situations and highlighting radio-frequency power to overcome jamming, interference, and cyber-attacks. The system is presented as a communications tool designed for various operational contexts, ensuring the sharing of sensitive data, scalability, and easy integration with the ability to connect to military and commercial satellites in different orbits.
