Saab will help establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Hungary which, among other things, will help develop tactical fighter capability of the Hungarian air force.
As part of a deal signed last week for Hungary to acquire 4 additional Gripen fighter jets bringing up the total Gripen aircraft to 18, a separate agreement for the COE’s establishment was also concluded.
Hungarian defence minister, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky revealed on Friday that the CoE will use Virtual Reality (VR) to address the virtual training needs of the corresponding field support service capacities.
The CoE is to be established under a cooperation agreement concluded between the Hungarian Ministry of Defence and the Swedish Saab aerospace and defence company.
According to the agreement, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-supported aviation maintenance training program will be launched as a pilot project in the CoE, which is to be coordinated on Hungary’s part by the Defense Innovation Research Institute Nonprofit Ltd (VIKI).
