A Scan-eagle UAV, made by Boeing subsidiary, Insitu Inc., was shot down in Ukraine, the Russian MoD announced today.
The short range reconnaissance drone was brought down by a missile fired by Tor-M2 anti-air system in South Donetsk direction of the special military operation.
“Since the beginning of 2024, the Tor-M2 anti-air system crew from Baikal region have managed to wipe out more than 20 (types of) Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) unmanned aerial vehicles, namely Furia, Leleka, and others. But a special pride of the crew was the destruction of the U.S.-made ScanEagle UAV,” the statement said.
In takes several minutes for the Tor-M2 anti-air system crews to prepare the vehicles for fire, the systems is capable of neutralising any aerial targets, including and type of unmanned aerial vehicles produces in any country.
Despite the fact that the AFU often launches decoys to reveal the location of our anti-air systems, thanks to their professionalism and combat experience, the servicemen can easily determine whether the air target is a real threat or a trick of the enemy by its speed and trajectory, the statement added.
Deep Upgrade to Tor M2 Air defense system
The Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant which manufactures the Tor M2 has begun a deep modernization of the Tor family anti-aircraft missile system, said the general director of the enterprise Fanil Ziyatdinov in an interview with the National Defense magazine.
"Our team is actively working on the next deep modernization of the Tor family air defense systems. The advanced short-range anti-aircraft missile system will multiply combat and operational capabilities and will differ from today’s models even more than the Tor-M2 differs from the Tor-M1."
