Russia's latest weapon in the Ukraine conflict, the drone-launched X-UAV missile, has made its combat debut in the Kursk region, taking out a Ukrainian T-64B battle tank.
Developed by the Tula Instrument Design Bureau (KBP), part of the High-Precision Systems holding of Rostec, the X-UAV missile is designed for drone deployment to destroy lightly armored vehicles.
Telegram channel "Military Chronicle" has analyzed a video showing the deployment of the Inokhodets (Orion-E) drone in the Kursk region, which destroyed a Ukrainian T-64B tank. The publication notes that the drone was equipped with X-UAV missiles.
At the "Army-2024" forum in August, a representative of the enterprise revealed details about the missile's capabilities. "The missile is launched from drones, with a range of 4 to 8 km. The 6 kg warhead is high-explosive fragmentation, effective against lightly armored vehicles, dugouts, and fortifications," he was quoted as saying by Russian state-owned media.
According to the developer's representative, the missile guidance system operates similarly to the Krasnopol guided missile, using laser illumination to target the objective.
