Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace (KONGSBERG) is establishing a new missile production facility in James City County, Virginia, to produce Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) and Joint Strike Missiles (JSM).

KONGSBERG will invest more than $100 million into the Virginia site over the coming years, creating over 180 jobs. In addition to Virginia, the company continues to expand its production operations in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where its largest facility outside Norway is located. The Johnstown plant has been producing remote weapon systems for 20 years and will support the new facility’s expanded production capacity.

The Virginia facility will be equipped to handle both NSM, an anti-ship missile, and JSM, an air-launched missile designed for use with the F-35A.

The investment follows KONGSBERG’s expansions in Norway and the announcement of a new missile factory in Australia.
