Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has introduced its latest loitering munition named the "Rezvan," as part of a larger plan to expand its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fleet with 1,000 new drones.

The Rezvan drone, now operational, features a 20-kilometer range and a flight endurance of 20 minutes. It was unveiled and deployed during the Payambar-e Azam (The Great Prophet) 19 military exercise.

The Rezvan drone is equipped with a forward-facing camera, transmitting images back to the operator after launch. The operator can select and strike a target from a cylindrical launcher, enhancing the IRGC’s ground forces, particularly in mountainous terrains.

Loitering munitions, also known as "kamikaze drones," are designed for precision strikes. These drones patrol designated airspaces using optical and thermal sensors to detect and track targets. Once a target is found, the drone dives into it, ensuring destruction.

This addition boosts the IRGC’s rapid response units and enhances their capabilities to counter terrorist groups. The loitering munition's small size and portability make it ideal for ground combat and anti-ambush operations, offering greater flexibility and precision in various military scenarios.

In addition to the Rezvan, Iran's Army is preparing to receive a mass delivery of 1,000 new strategic UAVs. These UAVs, set to join the Army's fleet in the coming days, have been designed and manufactured by the Army in collaboration with the Iranian Defense Ministry. Iran’s state-owned media did not disclose specific details regarding the types of drones included in the delivery.

Last year, Iran also introduced homegrown UAVs suited for a variety of military operations. Among these are the multipurpose Ababil-4 and Ababil-5 drones, capable of reconnaissance, patrol missions, electronic warfare, data gathering, and aerial combat. The Army has also received new Arash drones, which are designed for long-range suicide operations with high precision.
